Now in its 48th year, Britt Festivals, a non-profit organization, is the Pacific Northwest’s premiere outdoor summer performing arts festival. Located in the historic 1850’s gold rush town of Jacksonville, Oregon (USA), Britt presents dozens of summer concerts, featuring world-class artists in classical music, jazz, blues, folk, bluegrass, world, pop and country music. Britt’s performance venue is a naturally formed amphitheater set among majestic ponderosa pines and native madrones on the beautiful hillside estate of 19th century photographer Peter Britt. Viewing a map of the facility will give you a clearer picture of how we have combined stadium seating within this natural setting. Tens of thousands of music lovers travel from all over the West to enjoy Britt’s world-class performances, spectacular scenery and casual, relaxing atmosphere.

Volunteer Organizations

Jacksonville Boosters Club
The Jacksonville Boosters Club was incorporated in 1965 as a community action group responding to the controversy then surrounding the proposed routing of Highway 238 along Jackson Creek.  That State-sponsored plan which would have razed 11 historic structures was ultimately defeated when, through the efforts of the fledgling Club, the City received Historic District status from the Federal government. The Boosters’ bi-annual Home and Garden Tour and annual Holiday Party silent auction and raffle  raise money to help support worthy projects like the Jacksonville Elementary School spring musical, Victorian Christmas and Food & Friends.

Each year, Boosters undertake one or two work projects. In 2010, Boosters cleaned, repaired and repainted the Cemetery Sexton’s Tool House.  This year, Club members are repairing the Elementary School’s greenhouse.

Jacksonville Woodlands Association
The Jacksonville Woodlands Park and Trail System is a 280 acre hillside woodland park. The Association’s preservation efforts have attracted national attention and has set the standard for community land preservation in Oregon. An additional 25 acres, some containing historic 1860’s goldmines, remain to be protected. Long range plans also call for the doubling of the Woodlands trail network.  The Forest Park is a new hiking & mountain biking area just West of town. Take Hwy 238, turn on MaryAnn Drive, and an immediate left up Reservoir Road to the signs for Forest Park. Beautiful views and the old Railroad Trails can be seen here.

Jacksonville Heritage Society

Beekman House

In 2010, the Southern Oregon Historical Society entered into a long-term agreement with the new Jacksonville Heritage Society. Under this agreement, SOHS turned over to JHS the daily management of the Beekman House, Beekman Bank, Catholic Rectory, and the “courthouse complex” (the buildings now known as the Jacksonville Museum and the Children’s Museum.) JHS plans to resume operating the Beekman House and Beekman Bank as interpretive historic sites.

Sanctuary One

Sanctuary One at Double Oak Farm is a care farm where people, animals, and the earth work together for mutual healing. A care farm provides an ideal environment in which to learn and practice the art of care giving in a way that also transforms the caregiver. Care farming (also known as green care, farm care, or farming for health), is well established in Europe, but is a relatively new concept in the United States.
