BRITT PARTNERS WITH SOUTH STAGE CELLARS ON “RISING STARS” COMPETITION
Applications now being accepted for second annual competition

Jacksonville, OR — Britt announces a new partnering with South Stage Cellars in Jacksonville, Oregon on the second annual Rising Stars competition, in which local musicians compete and the public votes on their favorite. Applications for the contest are now being accepted.

The Rising Stars competition is open to solo, duo or trio acts in jazz, folk, classical, blues, country, rhythm & blues, bluegrass, flamenco, soft rock, a capella, contemporary or original music. From those who apply, musicians will be selected to perform at South Stage Cellars’ Jacksonville tasting room at weekend performances, beginning March 9. Admission is free, and in the initial rounds, the public can vote for their favorite performer for $2 per vote. All voting proceeds will be donated to La Clinica. The final rounds will take place April 26 and 27, on the Britt stage, with the winner chosen by a combination of public voting and a panel of judges.

“I had the pleasure of attending the final weekend of the Rising Stars competition last year and walked away a fan,” says Britt Executive Director Donna Briggs. “This partnership is a great way for Britt Festivals to support regional artists and the local economy.  We are pleased that South Stage Cellars is investing in the arts in such a meaningful way.”

The Rising Stars 2013 winner will receive a monetary prize, and an opportunity to perform on the Britt stage as an opening act in the

2013 season (pending artist approval). The competition began last year and included 32 performances over an eight-week period. In 2012, the Rising Stars competition raised $7000 for charity.

South Stage Cellars’ Director of Marketing and Events Porscha Schiller says, “The heartbeat of this event is the local musicians performing for the audiences who support local non-profits. I see this as the perfect marriage between musicians and the community. I am very proud to be part of this relationship.”

Application forms can be picked up at South Stage Cellars’ tasting room in Jacksonville. There is no entry fee.
