BLM is hosting a National Public Lands Day event on the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail—with help from SUTA on Saturday, September 24, 2016, from 8:30am-1:00pm.

Volunteers will help re-route a steep section of trail that currently goes over the tunnel. At the 2014 Public Lands Day event, we re-routed the trail on the other side of the tunnel with the crew shown below. This time, we will tackle the section shown in the picture, making a smoother and safer route for trail users to enjoy. We will create a new trail segment between the Tunnel Ridge access trail and Sterling Mine Ditch Trail and decommission the old trail section. Great views, fun work and entertaining people! There is a moderate 1-mile hike to get to the work site; volunteers should be prepared to hike and be away from their vehicles for several hours. Bring water, and gloves. A bagged lunch will be provided to carry up to the site. Siskiyou Upland Trails Association (SUTA) will bake treats for everyone to enjoy during the morning.

Please meet at the Tunnel Ridge Trialhead of the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail, Little Applegate Road.
